Bryan Singer Returns to Marvel with a Bang
We all rejoiced at the news that Bryan Singer was coming back to Marvel to direct X-Man: First Class, which will feature the early days of the Xavier School and the X-Men. During an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Singer states
"Just doing younger mutants is not enough, the story needs to be more than that. I love the relationship between Magneto and Xavier, these two men who have diametrically opposite points of view but still manage to be friends — to a point. They are the ultimate frenemies."
The interview does confirm that Cyclops, Jean Grey and Beast will appear, but Singer avoided the question of whether or not Hugh Jackman would cameo as Wolverine in the movie. He did say that Jackman wants him to direct one of his upcoming films, which would more than likely, is Wolverine 2, which is going to be set in Japan, according to the last report I heard.
So, two X-Men flicks handled by Bryan Singer? Sounds like good news to me. But wait, there’s more! Lauren Shuler Donner, producer of the X-Men franchise, apparently wants Singer to direct X-Men 4.
"I wish I could be four people," related Singer. "I could make everybody happy."
Singer is currently contracted to direct "Jack the Giant Killer", which may prevent him from taking on an additional "X-Men" film. During the interview, Singer spoke directly to "X-Men" producer Shuler Donner regarding "X-Men 4."
"Hold that one off for just a little," requested Singer. "I’m fixated on the other one right now."
"I will, I will," replied Shuler Donner. "I’m holding it open with high hopes. It’s totally different [from ‘First Class’] and it will be so interesting for you."
Bryan Singer also talks at great length about the 10th anniversary of X-Men. Check out the full article for more from Singer and a look back at when X-Men was released.
I have to say, the idea of Singer taking over the X-Men series again is very exciting. And he could really make a decent Wolverine, especially if set in Japan. I think that would really settle well with Singer’s directing style. Still a lot of time until we see these movies start to take shape, but it’s definitely heading in a better direction than I thought they would before Singer was announced.
steampunk wars
Brian Rood decided to create a Steampunk-variation of the classic Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet.
What is Steampunk you say? According to wikipedia, Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction which denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used-usually the 19th century. The stories are often set in Victorian era England-but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. A growing trend at Comic Con is to dress as a Steampunk version of your favorite character. A couple years ago I saw a Ghostbuster wearing a top hat and a wooden backpack. And in previous editions of Cool Stuff we’ve shown you a guy who made a Steampunk Flux Capacitor, another guy who made a working life-sized Steampunk R2-D2, and another artist created a line of Steampunk Star Wars action figures.
The helmet was created for the TK Project, a charity event the 501st Stormtooper Legion is holding for the Make A Wish Foundation. Check out more photos after the jump, including other photos from te week which include Steampunk cosplay photos of Princess

Game of Thrones... SEAN BEAN
I’ve had people tell me to read George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire for years, but I’ve never been terribly interested. I’m much more taken with the idea of
Thomas McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor) directed the pilot based on a script by David Benioff (who will produce the series) and D.B. Weiss. Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Iain Glen, Lena Headey and many more appear in the pilot, which sets up a massive story “set in the mythical land of Westeros [which] tells the story of the noble Stark family, who become caught up in high court intrigue when patriarch Eddard (Sean Bean) becomes the king’s new right-hand man.”
Nine episodes have been ordered, with filming to commence in Belfast in June. The series will premiere in spring 2011. The idea is to do one season based on each book in the series, though Martin has only published the first four novels of a planned seven. A Feast for Crows, the last to see release, hit shelves in 2005. [THR]
Meanwhile, another show that has been brewing at HBO has attracted some talent. Lee
